Families on The Road
We are a FOTR (Family On The Road)
Imagine our surprise when FOTR e-mailed us and asked if we'd like to join their site and link to theirs... a community of other road families to share stories with?! How could we say no? If you are one of the folks who has written to us asking about the hows and whys of making long term travel a reality, check out this site. It is chock full of families living on the road, all over the world (although mostly in North America) right now. You're sure to be inspired and encouraged to make your dream a reality!
Geography Matters
Edventurous explorer and geography educator extraordinaire, Uncle Josh Wiggers descended, with cape flapping in the breeze, to heroically provide all of the maps in our virtual field trip downloads. In our humble, home schooling, opinion, his resources for teaching geography are the best available. If you buy them through us by entering their web site using this link, Uncle Josh will contribute a portion of your purchase price to furthering our expedition. Hurrah for Uncle Josh!
Indie Travel Guides: Traveling Europe
This e-book and audio-book (DRM-free, so you can use it with any MP3 player) was written by travelers who have actually been to the places they're writing about! Craig and Linda spent 2.5 years traveling through 29 European countries. Plus, there are specialist chapters written by our own Jennifer Miller and Jennifer Marlowe. So, you can trust the information to be accurate. But don't take our word for it, there is a 100% money-back guarantee. And, since this is an e-book, it can be updated. Your purchase provides you with updates to the book for life!
Any purchase made when clicking on this link will contribute to the work of the Edventure Project as well.
Jan's Village Pizza
Our kids' favorite food after a long day's ride? Pizza, of course! Truly, this is the best pizza in America... and we've lived and worked in Chicago and New York, so we've tried 'em all! Located in Westfield, IN. Stop in and tell them we sent you! A hearty thanks to Grandma and Grandpa's Great, who own the shop, for years of love, encouragement and good food to grow on!
Kohn Improvements
This trip would not have been possible without all of the time and effort you put into making our biggest investment all it could be... our house! Anyone living in NH who needs anything home repair or renovation related would do well to hire these guys. They built a four story addition on our home and we have had not even ONE complaint. In fact, we can't say enough about their work ethic, prices and excellent craftsmanship. Hire them.
Kucharik
A big thank you to Kucharik for providing cycling jerseys that are not only functional, but fun, allowing us parents to match our kids. This is an American company that provides all sorts of cycling gear. If cycling is your passion, this site will become a favorite!
Ryanhood
We saw these guys at Quincy Market in Boston several years ago, playing with their guitar case open for small change. We immediately liked their sound. Then they resurfaced on our radar while planning the trip and we bought an album (available on iTunes). Many of their songs resonate with our family, but "Gardens and the Graves" seemed to be written just for us, just for this adventure. We contacted Ryan & Cameron and asked them if they would be interested in giving it to us as our official theme song. They were and they did. If you are looking for some good, clean, hip music for your family, check them out. Our boys have been inspired by their masterful guitar playing. Thanks, guys, for the song and for believing in our adventure enough to show your support.
Schwalbe Tires
After much research, we decided that Schwalbe was the way to go. After some testing, it is apparent that the research was right! It's amazing how much of a difference these tires make. Prior to switching to these tires, I would coast down hills while the children pedaled to try to keep up - and Jenn burned up her brakes at the back of the line. Now, having changed nothing more than the tires, the kids stay right on my tail down the hills in addition to trying to push me up the hills. And after pedaling hundreds of kilometers over some awful terrain, we've only had to change one tube due to puncture. Excellent tires! Excellent results!
A BIG "thank you" to Celeste at Schwalbe for her help, wonderful customer service, and sponsorship. I whole-heartedly recommend their products.
The Mill Ice Cream Cafe and Fudge Factory
The Mill, in Bristol, NH is our favorite Saturday night hang out. The people are wonderful, music is great and the atmosphere is intoxicating. If you find yourself in the neighbourhood, stop in and say, "Hi," to David and Linda and their son, Noah, for us. At the risk of sounding like an infomercial for The Mill, we must also point out that they make the very best fudge on the planet, bar-none. Lucky for you, whether you live in NH or not, you can get some. They cook it up in artisan batches and ship it all over the world. It will be highly worth your while to order a pound or two... hey, why not even send US a pound, while you're at it!! You'll love their fudge, we promise!
The Seat, by Ergo
For Mother's Day, 2006 my dear husband bought me one of these fabulous seats... the only way to fly, having given birth to four kids! I was so happy with it that I converted the whole family! The generous folks at Ergo gave us a big discount and free buttons announcing that we now have "No numb butt!" Truly, after thirty miles, every day, I spring from my metal steed without ANY saddle discomfort at all... and THAT, my friends, is amazing. Visit their website and check it out, your buns will thank you.
The Touring Store
We so appreciate the time and wisdom contributed to our venture by Wayne, owner of The Touring Store. He spent many hours consulting about bags and racks and reinforcement and a million other things that we didn't understand at first! We appreciate the encouragement as well as the great deal he gave us on our Ortlieb panniers and bags which we are SO happy with. Waterproof IS a good thing! If you need any sort of bike touring related gear, look here first. The gear and the service are outstanding!
