Drive by Shootings: Makassar to Tana Toraja: A Photo Essay
January 20, 2013 in Asia, Indonesia, Travelogue
Makassar to Tana Toraja is a nine hour drive
Covering about 330 km of the stunningly beautiful interior of South Sulawesi. After spending what’s felt like entirely too much time in Indonesia’s cities, we have been looking forward to our road trip through the highlands of Sulawesi and learning more about the fascinating cultures that have been rooted here for thousands of years.
We set out in a hard monsoon rain:
When it passed… the views were gorgeous:
Stopped roadside to buy Hannah a banana as big as her forearm!
The Ubiquitous Bus Crash:
Happy to have driven ourselves today…
Finally, we arrive in Tana Toraja!
Famous for it’s boat shaped architecture… stay tuned as we explore!
It looks surreal! Cannot wait to hear more Miller adventures 🙂
Now THOSE are DORMERS!!!
was the banana good? The woman pointing down the ditch, Ez, were you peeing on a tree?
Grandpa… the banana was very good, but they couldn’t finish it, even working together!! I wish I knew what she was pointing at.
How long did the drive take you? I’m planning to take a road trip there too at the end of the month…
That was a solid 9 hours… budget 10 at least. Long. Drive. Crap. Roads. But hey, it’s Indo, what do we expect, right? 😉 You’ll have a blast… almost no one drives themselves.
