Welcome to Sydney

Every time I look out the window I have to pinch myself
The Sydney Opera House fills my window frame.
Sydney has long been near the top of our bucket list places, so stepping off the plane yesterday to blue skies, 25C weather and our good friend Georgia as our “hit the ground” tour guide was a high point.
The best antidote for post-flight lethargy is fresh air and a good walk, so we made the 6 Km or so hike between Bondi and Coogee beaches. There are no words. It was spectacular. We saw dolphins. The sandstone formations are like something from a fairy story, the colours in the water like something out of an impressionist painting.
The Holiday Inn Old Sydney is generously hosting our stay. I’ve spent the morning studying the skyline around the Circle Quay and I’m quite convinced that there is not a hotel with a better or closer view of the Sydney Opera House. We’re one street in from the water, right across the narrow inlet from the iconic Sydney landmark. Watching the sunrise from the roof this morning is an hour that will live in my memory forever.
Of course the boys have checked two big “must-dos” off of their list already: digeridoo music and consuming kangaroo. They ordered “Kangaroo burritos” for dinner last night… not a fusion cuisine I would be lining up to try, but they were happy enough. They’re now shopping hard for Crocodile Dundee style hats!
Of course there are stories to tell, and I will tell them… but right now the city is calling and we don’t want to waste a moment!
Here are a few pictures in the meantime:
Thanks for posting the pic of the kangaroo meat. My kids were wondering. Sounds Idyllic!!
Great pictures!
I love your haircut and all the kiddo hats!
I love the hats and all the photos. We loved Sydney when we were there, and I agree, there is nothing like waking up to the Opera house out the window.
Sydney, a dream from another lifetime, and now a lifetime ago. Like Antarctica, its one of the “what ifs” from the past.
There is still time Grandpa!! Let’s GO!! We want to go to antarctica too… we could go together??
