Go Shopping With Us

< ![CDATA[ You've read before about our "edventures" in shopping. In the Netherlands Meg and I were purchasing something that we ate as salad for weeks... it turned out to be something meant to be boiled and eaten as a cooked veggie. Whoops. Then there was the "bread" in Prague. We had an oven our apartment, so we almost purchased these lovely loves of partially baked bread to brown up in our oven. Thank goodness we didn't! It wasn't partially baked bread; it was dumplings! What is served under all manner of meat and sauce in the Czech. Delicious as it is meant to be served... maybe not so much dried out in our oven! And the bacon that was definitely NOT bacon. More like lunch meat masquerading as bacon which did not live up to our expectations fried with our french toast in Berlin. Every new country we pass into provides its culinary differences for us to adjust to. Sound bite from our shopping trips: "Well girls, what do you think this is?" "I don’t know, but it looks kinda like ____." "Okay, let's try it!" Sometimes we win, sometimes we loose. With cheese we usually win. The Czech has been the most interesting (read that difficult) in it's differences. We photographed one display of instant noodles to give you an idea. We've also photographed an entire store flyer so kids everywhere can share in Hannah's math assignment from Prague: Find out the current exchange rate from Czech Kroner to U.S. Dollars. Plan a meal from what is advertised in the flyer. Figure out what it costs in Kroner and in Dollars. Hannah actually had to convert the whole flier... but maybe one meal's worth will be enough to give you the idea. Now imagine doing that in your head while trying to read Czech and sort out the irritatingly similar coins as the check out lady RUSHES you through the line. Truly, I can't bag groceries fast enough for European standards! Happy shopping! The images below are large. It's probably best to right-click on the image and save it to your computer to view more easily.
