Malaysia, Migration and Moving Forward: Regroup!

August 25, 2012 in Asia, Thailand, Travelogue

I’ve never been very good at sitting still, and the concept of having just one iron in the fire is incomprehensible to me.

I believe I get this from my mother.

She gifted me with the habit of forward motion and as a result I get a lot of stuff done. Not as much as she does, I think, but I do what I can.

This has been a week of regrouping and planning new leaps. Yes, I know we just got back from our overland trip through Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, but that doesn’t mean the journey has ended. Far from it, in fact. Here are a few of the things you might want to know about that have been rolling around in my head on the long bus rides:

Malaysia

For those of you who need to see the map in your head, it’s the country just south of Thailand; part of it lays on the same peninsula that we’re on. The capital is Kuala Lumpur. There’s your geography lesson for the day! Malaysia has long been on our list and is a likely “next” for a base for a few months. We’re planning a trip to Penang in October to attend a meet up of traveling families and make some of our virtual friends into “real friends,” and we’re excited about that.

The younger boys want to get their SCUBA certifications. Hannah’s interested in taking a TEFL course. We hear that it’s a good, inexpensive and well connected place to explore the southern islands from, so we’re looking forward to that!

Have you been to Malaysia? Would you be willing to share your advice or connections with us?

Migration

You may have noticed that overnight our website changed! It wasn’t actually overnight, it’s taken days of hard work and it hasn’t been glitch free, so bear with us if you find errors. We’ve decided to bite the bullet and upgrade the site to a host service that will handle more traffic and subdivide it a bit to make it easier to use.

You’ll find all of our stories and the continuation of our journey under the “Blog” tab now, and we’ve sorted four and half years of stories by continent and country. You’re welcome!

The big changes come in the Education and Adventure categories, as we hope to add lots of fun ideas for ways to keep the learning going around the world and inspiration for adventures that you might like to embark on with your family.

If you have any suggestions, or would like to contribute some ideas for that part of our growth, shoot me a line!

Moving Forward…

As always, we’re moving forward! This week marks the beginning of a new school year for us, the relaunch of our Dream: Reboot program, and in two short weeks Jenn will be taking off for a whirlwind family and wedding tour in the USA.

Jenn’s also working on a super cool and super secret project right now that could use some input. We can’t share the details right now, but if you’re someone who took a gap year to travel and it changed your life radically, please touch base with us and let us know. We’ll let you in on the secret!

We don’t often stop to say it, but thanks so much for following our story and reading along. We love hearing from you and sharing the journey!

Nose around our new site and let us know what you think!
