Mezcal factory tour
March 12, 2010 in Mexico, North America, Podcast, Travelogue
The owner of our campground in Oaxaca, Mexico owns and operates the Scorpion Mezcal factory and invited us along on a tour. Mezcal is a liquor, similar to tequila in that it’s made by distilling juice from the agave plant. However, where tequila can only use one type of agave, mezcal can be made of other types, so the flavors can vary greatly, much like wine.

Very interesting . . . sept the bug in the bottle . . . yuck!
Can I buy the caramel flavored mescal anywhere in the US? Preferably in New Orleans or on the MS Gulf Coast. Bought one bottle when we were there on the last cruise of the season and now I wish I had several cases.
Elizabeth, I’m sorry, I really don’t know. We don’t have any experience with trying to buy mezcal in the USA. We’ve only ever purchased it in Central America.
