March of this year is a very special month for us…

It marks our fifth anniversary of full time travel as a family… hard to believe.

• This month, in 2008, we were boxing up what remained of our home and putting the last things in storage.
• We were shoveling our RV out of snow almost four feet deep (no kidding.)
• We were placing our final stickers on our countdown to blast off calendar.
• We were selling vans and putting the finishing touches on our touring bikes.
• Our kids were 5, 7, 9 & 11 years old.
• We were worried about the big shift, excited, but a bit afraid.
• We were nervous about the unknown.
• We were SO ready to make the break after two years of hard work and planning.
• It seems like yesterday… and it seems like forever ago, simultaneously.

This March finds us tooling around New Zealand in a camper van.

• We’ve managed to convert from traveling on our savings to funding ourselves as we go.
• The kids are now 10, 12, 14 & 16… half of Ezra’s childhood has been spent traveling.
• We’re no longer nervous about travel or what the road will bring us, it’s a comfortable lifestyle now.
• We’re planning just a few months out, instead of a year at a time.
• We’re on our fifth continent with a sixth in sight later this year.
• We’re on our 26th country with plans for at least two more new ones this year.

This month we’re celebrating in a big way…

We’re planning a month long birthday party with lots of gifts!

The very best part of our life on the road has been the fantastic people we’ve crossed paths with.

We met our buddy Duane in Guatemala

He was playing at a restaurant one evening and we fell in love with his soulful music and the joy that seeps out of his every pore.

Duane is a pretty special guy. He travels around with his guitar making music and raising money for Genesis Art School in Copan Ruinas, Honduras. He started the school himself, to provide the underprivileged local kids with an opportunity to explore the arts, for free. He funds it himself, as his love gift to that community and the world.

How cool is that?

We’ve kept up with Duane as we’ve traveled and he’s come to see us in the USA and Canada. We hosted a fundraiser for his school on Wolfe Island a couple of summers ago, some of you were there, and you got to meet him.

We’re hoping hard he’ll come crash our party in New Zealand later this year!
